Knights of Bal Timorea: Heraldry Colors for Sir Dubois

Well I have my knight assembled and named so now I figured I should maybe start planning his Heraldry.

I was hoping to find some hidden family crest or something that I could use for inspiration, but unfortunately none existed that I or my family members could find. So I then decided to look at the national colors and flags for the Two countries my family comes from, Poland and Germany.

This is the flag of Poland. I really like the red and white combination of colors and I have quite a few ideas for the Heraldry running through my mind

This is the flag and colors of Germany. Again we have red so I definitely see red as one of my chosen colors. This flag also has a yellow and black, both of which I wouldn't mind incorporating into the heraldry in some way.

Next we have some Icons from both countries, First is from Poland followed by Germany.

As you can see they both take on the colors of the country the represent and both contain different versions of an eagle. That means that an eagle will make an appearance on the heraldry.  I should now have enough information to design my Knights Heraldry.

I decided to go with the colors of the Polish flag and combine it with the German black eagle icon. So located below you can see the final heraldry of George Thaddius Dubois.

Now all I have left is to prime my Knight and get to painting! More updates soon.

Tavern Talk - Rituals

I missed out on the last Tavern Talk due to my move, but when Kuffy over at The Trading Post sent out this new assignment, I just had to make sure I posted on this one.

So the topic for discussion are what rituals we as gamers go through. There are a few quirky things I do in my games over a few gaming systems so this will not be a Fantasy Battle specific post.

One of the rituals that I stick to the most is in my games of Warhammer 40K. I have sets of dice I only use with certain armies. I have a set of Black dice with silver pips that is for my Black Templars and I have a set of grey dice with yellow pips that I use for my Space Wolves. I never use any other dice with these two armies and I am not even sure why I do it but it is something I stick to every time I play either of them.

Another ritual I have is naming all of the characters is my army lists. It doesn't matter what system I am playing, I always give the characters a name and have it on my list. I am sure it comes from all the years I played D&D, I just like having that feel of my own personal character in my army. To piggyback on that I have an Orc character that I use in both my Orcs and Goblins as well as my Space Ork armies. His name is Grubak Skulzbasha and no matter what he makes an appearance in my army lists as one of the orc/ork characters.

My last ritual that pretty much is carried over in every game that I play that uses dice, is carrying the dice I am going to use for the game in this red, green and brown dice bag. I don't even remember where I got the damn thing but anytime I leave my house to go gaming it is right there by my side carrying what ever dice I have chosen t use for that day.

Well there you have it, just a few of my personal rituals I go through when I am getting ready to do some gaming.

Knights of Bal Timorea: Sir George Thaddius Dubois

Lucky me, I just happened to check my mail one last time at the old house before turning in my keys and there was a package from John at SC Warhammer. It was my very own knight to paint for the Knights of Bal Timorea project.
So I will now be starting my contribution to the project by assembling and painting Sir George Thaddius Dubois. I am trying to tie as much of my own family history into this model as possible. My knight's first and middle names are both my grandfathers' first names. His last name is based on my last name with a few letter changes to make it sound French.
Well that is all I have for today. I apologize if this post looks bad but all I have is my phone for posting until my cable modem is installed Saturday.
Thank you for taking the time to read my blog and please feel free to leave a comment.

I am still alive!

Hey all, I am sorry for the lack of updates this week. My family and I were offered a new, bigger house on base and we just couldn't pass up the opportunity to take it. Having teen daughters sharing a bedroom is no fun for mom and dad so we jumped at the chance to have the larger house.

So unfortunately this means I have been busy moving this week and have had no hobby time. The good news is the moving is done, the bad news is I have to wait on Time Warner to come install the wiring for the internet, until then I am stuck updating from my phone.

So that is my status update, I will be getting back into hobby stuff this week and I will post the best I can until my internet is up.
